Here are some of the kids hard at work painting by the river, under artist Alisa Lumbreras' tutelage. They will be contributing work to the show also, doing their part for the love of the river.

[This is a poem by Mrs. Mary Bayard Clarke, written for and recited by Miss Bowen in a parlor at Warm Springs (now Hot Springs)] "...A sample of the afternoon's long recitation, titled Racing Water, conveys its general flavor: "Racing Water" who can paint thee, With thy scenery wild and grand? It would take a magic pencil Guided by a master hand. Down the canon's rocky gorges, Now they wildly, madly sweep, As with laughing shout exultant, O'er the rocks they joyous leap. Tah-kee-os-tee-- Racing Water-- Was thy sonorous Indian name, But as 'French Broad' thou are written On the white man's roll of fame. Perish that! but live the other! For on every dancing wave Evermore is shown the beauty Of the name the red man gave. Of the name the red man gave." Erisa Harris is back again this year painting on the river. Participating artist Alisa Lumbreras teaches a small group of kids classical painting techniques and takes them out to paint en plein air. They are participating in the show again this year, excited to help support Riverlink. They had some very fine paintings last year, and we welcome them back! |
